The Rosemarkie Cross Slab was removed from it's origonal site in the Pictish settlement, and is believed to be used as part of the Rosemarkie Parish Church flooring. It is thought that this is why it is so badly worn on one side.

1733

There is reference that in 1733, the Rosemarkie Stone was lifted from the floor of Rosemarkie Church, and during the process, it was badly damaged.

1850

In 1850 the Stone was place outside the Church, within a metal frame.

1980

The Stone, still owned by the Church of Scotland, was brought into Groam House Museum for safe keeping in 1980.
