How do we know?

Pollen cores are a good and reliable way of investigating and reconstructing past environments. Cores can be radiocarbon dated so that each species of flora identified in the peat can be related back to a specific time. From these we can get an idea of what Tentsmuir looked like up to 8600 years! Check out the core to see what species have been growing in Tentsmuir over the years.
