Floor Tiles

Location: Chapel

Description: The floor of the chapel was probably covered in tiles or a mixture of tiles and stone pavers (slabs). The tiles might have been laid in 1506 when James IV had the chapel built.

Archaeologists have identified green and yellow tiles imported from Flanders (Belgium), but they do not know exactly what the pattern looked like. We have recreated a typical 16th century pattern.

Teleport to the Presence Chamber to see another kind of floor tile from excavations at Linlithgow.
