Title A name given to the resource Hilton of Cadboll Description An account of the resource Location – The original stone is in the Museum of Scotland. A replica, by Barry Grove, stands on the site at Hilton of Cadboll Chapel. The Hilton of Cadboll cross-slab (Class 2) once stood outside St Mary’s chapel at Cadboll, the remains of which can still be seen as grass covered mounds. In 1676 the face bearing the cross was defaced and an inscription cut to commemorate Alexander Duff and his three wives. In the 19th century the stone was removed to Invergordon castle, and in 1921 it was presented to the British Museum in London. However the following year it was returned to Scotland and it is now in the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. In 2000, a new stone was set up at the chapel site, which was carved to reproduce as closely as possible the design of the surviving face of the original. Title A name given to the resource Holy Trinity Church 圣三一教堂 Description An account of the resource Holy Trinity Church was for many years the main place of worship for St Andrews' ordinary residents. It was built in the early fifteenth century, near the residential and trading centre of St Andrews. During the late Middle Ages Holy Trinity was regarded as one of Scotland's leading parish churches, and was served by about thirty priests. The interior was richly decorated with stained glass, luxurious fabrics, and statues imported from Flanders. In 1547 Holy Trinity was the scene of the first public sermon of the famous Reformer, John Knox. In 1559 Knox again preached in Holy Trinity, commanding the people of St Andrews to purge the city of "monuments of idolatry". Inspired by Knox's words, the local population rejected Catholicism, tore down statues and altars, and sacked St Andrews Cathedral. At the start of the twentieth century Holy Trinity was extensively remodelled.
